The documents below include the outline needed for a good reader response, the instructions for the character study, and the deadlines for Summer Reading. You will use the RR guidelines all year.
Welcome to AP Literature and Composition! Students in APLit have registered for this class with a mind's eye towards learning more about the craft of literature and how to analyze elements in the pieces that they read. We will spend this year reading, reading, and reading some more...and then discussing and writing about what we have read in a way that involves us in the fascinating, global conversation that is literature.
A few words about expectations...students who have placed themselves in a rigorous class are indicating by their very presence that they are intrinsically motivated and prepared to work. From the start, I will emphasize that in the assignments we do, completion is NEVER the goal...completion is an EXPECTATION. Excellence is the goal. Students in this class must never be satisfied with simply finishing something to turn in...it should at all times be mindfully and thoughtfully prepared work, designed to add to the classroom conversation in an interesting way.
My weekly schedule rarely changes, and weekly syllabi will be both distributed and published on this site. When major projects arise, guidelines and expectations will be posted on this site along with deadline information. Students are expected to check this site to obtain missing documents and information; while hard copies of guidelines will be available, I expect that students with online access will first check the website to save time and paper.
I look forward to a great year.
